An exquisite and monumental true pair of French 19th century Napoleon III Period Renaissance st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze andirons, stamped by F. Barbedienne. Each andiron has an impressive large scaled base decorated with cherubs at the bottom which flank the scrolling support beams. Each cherub is holding a draping piece of fabric that flanks a fierce lion head which is perched above a crowned crest. Above the pair of cherubs is a triangular support with ‘S’ scrolled edge designs and a seated satyr on each edge. The three sides of the upper triangular support contain central busts of beautiful maidens with wonderful flowing hair. At the top stand charming winged Ormolu classically dressed cherubs with one hand raised and both looking at each other.
