Vintage Design
In a simple design, in a style referred to in Chinese as a ‘ta,’ this stunning low table has a thick table top, fitted flush to the legs, which taper down slightly to squared, angular horse hoof feet. The original all-over black lacquer finish has worn over time, to leave a characterful patina that blends many different tones of the old finish and paler wood, particularly on the top surface.
It was produced from elm wood in Shanxi province towards the end of the nineteenth century as a day bed used for seating or reclining on during the day. Today it makes an attractive coffee table that will add interest and impact to both modern and traditional interior styling.
