An impressive ormolu ornamental vase centerpiece of campana shape, the bronze vessel resting on a moulded concave agate stone pediment with byzantine cross shaped base.
The gilt concave foot of the vase shows ram’s heads intertwined with scrolls hung with fruity festoons under a ribboned bundle frieze.
The concave stem supports an egg and dart shaped bottom carrying a large frieze representing brown patinated swans grooming themselves between water reeds and drifting water lilies, one of them chasing away a crow or pigeon.
The handles are shaped as heavy bundles of water reeds and water lily leaves, supporting the large molded rim decorated with a frieze of hosta leaves.
Similar vases are known to be the work of the famous Parisian workshop of Barbédienne; the style and theme of the urn are typical for the late 19th century and combine the classical Napoleon III style with the new Art Nouveau.
Style and execution of this vase are truly outstanding.

Height 50 cm, width 41 cm, depth 33 cm.
