1930s Eichner Pewter Vase

Handsome pewter vase by the renowned Danish artist Laurits Christian Eichner. This piece fans out from a 2.9” base to a 4” opening with a striking band around the middle. Piece is believed to be from the 30’s or 40’s.

A skilled craftsman who worked in silver, pewter, brass, and other mediums, Eichner was trained as an engineer before turning to metalwork during the depression. His work reflected a range of stylistic influences from Colonial Revival to Modernism and was widely recognized and exhibited in many prominent museums: many of which still have his pieces for exhibit.

Smithsonian Exhibition, 1941
In the 1950s the Smithsonian commissioned him to restore and reproduce instruments and machines for the opening of the Museum of History and Technology (now the National Museum of American History). There was a retrospective show on his work at the Smithsonian in 1971.
