Also of note, the mirror has several layers of alternating cavetto and quarter-round moldings, but no additional ornamentation. Louis Philippe mirrors are known for their subtle embellishments, which are generally carved into the most prominent molding. The giltwood frame has a lustrous gold color with some areas of mottled patina that is accentuated by the slight loss of silvering to the glass, giving the mirror added character. Our giltwood Louis Philippe mirror was hand-carved in France, circa 1850, and would be a fantastic addition to any wall of the house.
