Carved and gilt wood door from an iconostasis representing the Annunciation to Mary by the archangel Gabriel.
The word “iconostasis” comes from the Greek εἰκονοστάσι(-ον) (eikonostási(-on), still in common use in Greece and Cyprus), which means “icon stand”.
Gabriel announces her new status as mother of the Son of God, and explains that she will bear a child in her womb while remaining a virgin (Luke, 1, 26-32).
Right door warped, hinges missing, but overall good condition.
Rare.
