Vintage Design
English Antique George V general post office counter, circa 1910. An original pine General Post Office Counter with a bleached elm counter top and 12 graduated dovetailed drawers with original stamped George V Royal Cypher brass cup handles. In its original finish with a two door shelved cupboard and an original strip of 4 stamps stuck and retained to the side of the counter reading ‘For Testing Purposes Only’. Inside one of the drawers was an original wooden turned stamp ‘dabber’ which has now been restored and completes the story to this excellent example of a unique counter. The Counter top was originally positioned with an overhang to the left hand side presumably so that a work stool could be positioned underneath to enhance the utilitarian features of the counter. As the piece would make an ideal kitchen counter or prep table the top will be supplied loose so the new owner can configure to their design, left, centre or right positioned (as shown in the photographs) – the original iron counter top fixing plates still in place – just screw into the desired position. The original receipt from GPO ( General Post Office) for 10 shillings and 6 pence from 1967 when it was last purchased is shown and will be supplied. Measures: W 173 x H 92 x D 62.5 cm.
