This early pair of American “Firedogs,”, or andirons, was part of the estate of an 1804 farmhouse in Upstate New York. They are hand-forged, and likely date from the late 18th to mid-19th century. The simplicity of their design, their height and curves, and their excellent proportions contribute to their distinctive character. Despite. their age they are in good condition — and are heavy. They would complement and add authenticity to an historic setting and/or fireplace.
