A mantel clock crafted from gilt and gilded brass (also known as ormolu) and red griotte marble in the eclectic style popular during the Napoleon III period.
The mantel clock features a central griotte marble pedestal clock case with a circular dial behind domed glass. The pedestal case is decorated with classical ormolu brackets, including a rectangular relief below the dial and a series of hanging garlands set in grooves. The clock case is decorated with a large brass group of two embracing fairies, inspired by Clodion’s ‘Two Nymphs and a Satyr’, currently on display at the Currier Museum of Art in New Hampshire, USA.
