19th Century Napoleon III walnut partner’s desk with faux leather is a stunning transitional piece that embodies styles influenced by the three greatest eras of human endeavor! The uprights that provide support are all crafted with reeded center sections atop turned urn form pediments, and on the pairs on each end, are connected to the casework with buttresses. The smaller uprights across the centerline atop the “H” stretcher form a colonade in the Gothic tradition. The Renaissance is also represented, with carved angels on each corner, a Phoenix in full relief on each side, and a gryffin on the stretcher flanked by Greek coin which is framed by fletching, as examples of the neoclassical influence. Smiling lions are carved like busts at each foot for a whimsical effect. Above, each carved angel on the corner is finished with a carved pendant finial, and in between on the long sides appear two drawers for a total of four drawers, with the facades carved with fletching and rosettes complementing the “H” stretcher motif below. The top is a luxurious faux leather surrounded by bold demilune edging all around, making this a spectacular example of the furniture crafter’s art that can be placed anywhere in any room for maximum effect!
