Finished in luxurious Parisian taste, the classical antique side chairs, circa 1870, feature hand carved and ebonized fruitwood frames in the original patinated blackened finish that has charming antique character, and mildly distressed wear, preserved with clear varnish.
Standing on four turned tapered and fluted legs joined by serpentine shaped X cross-stretcher (or saltier) garnished with a simple decorative central finial, the two front legs terminating in casters, the rear in arrow feet, allowing for it to easily but not unwantedly roll.
Upholstered in a muted light blue gray, with comfortable, lightly cushioned seat and backrest, completed with patinated brass nailhead trim ornamentation.
The charming, understated design is elegant, simplistically sophisticated, and unpretentiously luxurious, while the complexity created by contrasting the muted, toned down grayish coloring against the rich ebony frame is exceptional.
