Made of palissander, this lovely Napoleon III period liqueur box is lacquered in black, a method which became popular during Napoleon III’s reign. The rosewood underlying the black lacquer creates contrasting edging, and the top is intricately inlaid with etched bronze scrollwork. An exquisitely detailed piece, this box contains three hand-painted gilt porcelain bottles. Working lock with key, circa 1860.
