This mid-19th century French Napoleon III period black lacquer cave a liqueur (liqueur caddy) or tantalus features bronze and tortoiseshell inlaid cartouches on the lid and doors. Additional bronze banding trims the top and front panels of the box. The hinged lid lifts up and locks in place, and the doors open to reveal an interior with three crystal carafes with lids. Twelve crystal liqueur glasses etched with a leaf motif fit into slots on the reverse side of the doors. A unique find with its complete service, this exquisite tantalus is sure to make a grand impression. Includes one key for functioning lock, circa 1860.
