Ritts Company. (Herb Sr. and Shirley Ritts) Tropitan Seven Seas Rattan Paul Frankl Tropical Sun Rattan These designers and companies helped to popularize rattan furniture in the United States during the 1930s through the 1960s. Shirley Ritts was the mother of photographer and music video director Herb Ritts Jr. Shirley Ritts was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 28, 1920. Herb Ritts Sr. also invented the “S springs” under the cushions in the early 50s and replaced the wrapping with preformed plastic.

Paul Frankl came from New York just before the Depression after a great run designing his renowned Skyscraper furniture line. He designed and decorated the homes of Hollywood’s top stars and producers from his Beverly Hills shop.

Paul Laszló was a Hungarian-born architect and interior designer whose work spanned eight decades and many countries. László built his reputation while designing interiors for houses in the 1950s to 60s, Including rattan furniture in his own style

C.W. Fishbeck started Tropical Sun Rattan of Pasadena in 1905. Tropical Sun produced top quality real rattan furniture in the Philippines where most of the above designers also had their designs made. He had showrooms across the country. We have in stock at this time a vast array of rattan from all of these designers, decorators, and architects; their sofas, chairs, and tables, just about all their designed products from the 40s through the ’60s.

All rattan, bamboo, and wicker furniture has been painstakingly refurbished to the highest standards with the best materials. Framed print by Roy Lichtenstein created for the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1989. This original poster titled “Drowning Girl” was inspired by a DC Comic and shows a girl drowning in water and emotion. The speech bubble reads “I don’t care! I’d rather sink than call Brad for help!” The work by Lichtenstein shows his prowess at hand-painting pop art pieces that imitate the mechanical printing process and showcase his consideration of the comic style. A renowned artist of the time, his work can be found internationally in museums such as the MoMA. This is an original vintage poster.

A subtle twist on a timeless classic, this Louis Philippe mirror has four rounded corners, whereas the traditional Louis Philippe only has rounded upper corners. Also of note, the mirror has several layers of alternating cavetto and quarter-round moldings, but no additional ornamentation. Louis Philippe mirrors are known for their subtle embellishments, which are generally carved into the most prominent molding. The giltwood frame has a lustrous gold color with some areas of mottled patina that is accentuated by the slight loss of silvering to the glass, giving the mirror added character. Our giltwood Louis Philippe mirror was hand-carved in France, circa 1850, and would be a fantastic addition to any wall of the house. It can be paired with any style of interior design from ancien regime to contemporary.

Peter Keil is a German artist that focuses primarily on abstract expressionism. Keil painted with some of the greats including Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol, to name a few. This is a beautiful painting featuring Keil’s iconic sailboats. This piece is from his “Junge Wilde” collection he created in Berlin. It is signed in the lower portion of the painting and was executed on a canvas like cloth. Oftentimes, Keil painted on cloth he had before being able to afford canvas. This piece was purchased directly from the Keil family, acting on behalf of Peter. The art is in good condition with typical signs of age and wear.

An iconic RKR Rocking wire side chair designed attributed to Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. This chair retains its original birch runners and original yellow hopsak fabric. The black iron frame pops off the vibrant yellow. Hard to find these with their original runners. This item is unmarked.

Condition:Original runners show bumps and bruises and wear to high points. Hopsak fabric shows light soiling. Most notable the base is missing two mounting tabs. New tabs could be welded on or the quick solution would be zip ties.
