French, c.1870
Measures: Height 14cm, diameter 66cm
These beautiful pieces are a pair of gilt-bronze surtouts de table centrepieces, dating from the third quarter of the nineteenth century. Featuring a circular outline in bronze above a large wide mirrored surface in the centre of each, they consist of a gallery around the glass, which is cast with pierced scrolling foliage. The pieces stand on a set of three short scrolling supports.
Low in height, and thus unobtrusive, they are large and grand in width: an exceptional pair of decorative antique works, suitable for any fine or grand interior, looking for an added French grandeur and sophistication.
